Say Cheese!

9:10 AM

Cheese displays are wonderful for weddings and special events. The one below is by Karen Mordechai of Sunday Suppers. Today we're discussing the most popular cheeses for displays, their varieties, and tips on how to serve them.

Soft Cheese- have thin skins and creamy centers; they ripen quickly

Brie

Boursin

Camembert

Semisoft Cheese- have smooth, sliceable textures; less moisture than soft cheese

Gouda

Gorgonzola

Havarti

Roquefort

Fontina

Firm Cheese- are not hard or brittle, some are close textured and flaky while others are dense and holey.

Cheddar

Provolone

Manchego

Jarlsberg

Gruyere

Serving Tips

-Always serve a varied selection of cheeses. There should be different flavors and textures featured.

-Use a variety of shapes and colors. The vibrant orange of a sharp Cheddar looks gorgeous near a blue veined Stilton.

-Non citrus fruits are the best accompaniment. That's why you typically see grapes and apples on cheese trays/displays.

-Have plenty of knives available to slice the cheese. Stronger flavored cheeses can overpower milder flavored ones if the same utensils are used.

Happy Planning & God Bless!
